USAID’s Funding of the Anti-American BBC: A Betrayal of Taxpayer Dollars

For decades, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has funneled millions of American taxpayer dollars to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), ostensibly to promote “independent media” and “democracy” abroad. In reality, much of this money has bankrolled an outlet that routinely demonizes the United States, pushes far-left cultural agendas, and amplifies anti-Western narratives under the guise of journalism.

Since 2014 alone, USAID has awarded the BBC over $120 million through grants and contracts, including tens of millions via the BBC Media Action arm. These funds have supported projects in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East—regions where the BBC simultaneously broadcasts content portraying America as a racist, imperialist oppressor while promoting gender ideology, open borders, and climate alarmism that aligns perfectly with European progressive elites rather than U.S. interests.

The hypocrisy is staggering: American taxpayers subsidize an organization that lectures them about “decolonization,” celebrates drag queen story hours as progressive triumphs, and gives sympathetic platforms to America’s adversaries. When the BBC isn’t sneering at “toxic” American masculinity or framing U.S. border enforcement as xenophobic cruelty, it’s whitewashing Palestinian terrorism or amplifying fringe voices calling to “defund” Western institutions—including the very military that guarantees Britain’s security.

This isn’t “soft power.” It’s self-sabotage. USAID money props up a woke, state-funded British broadcaster that bites the hand that’s feeding it, all while genuine strategic priorities, such as countering Chinese and Russian propaganda, go underfunded. Congress must immediately defund these grants and redirect every dollar to genuinely pro-American media initiatives or pay down our debt. Enough is enough.
